Fawzia Koofi

Fawzia Koofi, born on April 30, 1975, in Badakhshan, Afghanistan, is an Afghan women's rights advocate, author, and former member of parliament. She was one of the first women to be elected as First Deputy Speaker of the Afghan Parliament. Koofi has been a vocal advocate for women's rights and has participated in peace negotiations with the Taliban. She has authored a memoir titled 'Letters to My Daughters' which chronicles her life growing up in Afghanistan. Despite threats to her life, she has continued to advocate for Afghan women's rights. She ran for president in 2019, becoming one of the few Afghan women to seek the presidency. After the Taliban takeover, she has continued to advocate for Afghan women from exile.
