Biography
Girija Prasad Koirala (February 20, 1924 – March 20, 2011) was a Nepalese politician who served as Prime Minister of Nepal four times. He was a central figure in Nepal's democracy movement and played a crucial role in the 1990 People's Movement that restored multiparty democracy. Born into the influential Koirala political family, he was the nephew of B.P. Koirala, Nepal's first democratically elected Prime Minister. Girija Koirala was the president of the Nepali Congress party and led the party for many years. His final term as Prime Minister (2006–2008) was historic as he oversaw the abolition of the monarchy and the declaration of Nepal as a federal democratic republic. He is remembered as one of the most important figures in Nepal's democratic history.
